Long Exposure Photography
The goal of this practicum was to create a work of art using light as a primary medium. In the images in this portfolio, I captured light in motion for various sports via long exposure photography. The primary sources of light used were LED strips and glow sticks.
The photo shoot process to capture these images was in no way traditional, as in each photo shoot the subject and myself had to adapt to the location we were shooting in. For each shoot, the subject and I had a game plan for what images we wanted to capture and what we wanted to show. These plans usually were scrapped fairly quickly once shooting. Throughout the course of this project, I learned how the materials (LEDs and glow sticks) I was using could be photographed in the most interesting ways, and how to ask my subject to move across space to create an interesting image. By the end of the project, I learned the most important plans to make before a photo shoot was to just be prepared. Because of this, I started traveling to each photo shoot with a backpack filled with supplies (including light sources, extra batteries, a leatherman, and duct tape) to tackle whatever I would encounter at a photoshoot.
